Top 10 Films.

23 May

Recently at school, we have been collating lists of the students top 10 films so that we can create a massive LoveFilm subscription order, and it got me thinking about my favourite films.

My Top 5 Favourites…

1. Big Daddy – I love pretty much anything with Adam Sandler, but this used to be a favourite of mine when I was a teenager. I watched it over and over, and probably knew 95% of the words at one stage! Who doesn’t love The Kangaroo Song?!

2. Definitely, Maybe. – I love this alternative take on a classic chick flick and telling of a love story. Plus, Ryan Reynolds is hot!

3. Man On Fire – I’m a bit addicted to trashy girly films and love stories, so this always surprised everyone, but for some reason I love the story! Plus, Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning’s relationship is adorable!

4. The Lion King – Everyone has a favourite disney film (a guilty pleasure?!) This is mine, I’m not ashamed. I even went to see it in 3D at the cinema when it was re-released last year and it was just as amazing as I remembered!

5. Harry Potter – specifically The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows, but any of them will do! <3

And 5 that I would like to see…

6. One Day – I put off seeing this when everyone else was heading to the cinema because I like to read the book before I see the film, but now I have read it, loved it, and need to see it!

7. The Time Traveller’s Wife – Same reasoning as no. 6!

8. The Hunger Games – Same again. I didn’t automatically jump at seeing it at the cinema because I didn’t think it was my sort of thing, but I am hopelessly addicted to the books!

9. The Shawshank Redemption - This one’s simple – everyone has seen it (it seems) and has told me it’s awesome anknow have no idea what they’re chatting about!

10. Captain Corelli’s Mandolin – We read this book at school and I really loved it – the love story part at least, but I just never got around to seeing the film.

What would make it on to your list?

Ten For Tuesday

22 May

1. I am loving the weather at the moment – we were out until 9pm last night and I was wearing shorts. After the ‘summer’ so far,  this is nothing short of a miracle!

2. We went out last night to the Olympic Torch relay celebrations in Taunton – photos coming soon, but it was very very very cool!

3. I am a bit addicted to tinned peaches at the moment – I know what you’re thinking, it could be worse, but seriously, eating anything in these quantities cannot be healthy!

4. I have just started reading ‘Room’ by Emma Donoghue. I don’t really know what to make of it yet, I like the plot idea, but am unsure about the writing style. It’s very clever, but difficult to get used to – I’ll keep you updated!

5. This week is craaaaaaaaazzy! Exam season is in full swing, and I am scribing for one of the students in all his exams. Such a skill, I really don’t think I’d be able to let anyone write my exam answers for me!

6. As a result of this super busy few days, I amstruggling to fit any gym or workout time in which worries me because of my ‘workout 18 times’ goal – so I’m making the most of walking everywhere and doing some sit ups…..sometime’s you have to make the most of a bad situation!

7. I watched a movie called ‘The Blindside’ with Sandra Bullock the other day. I won’t say much other than it was pretty darn good, andit’d you haven’t seen it yet, do it soon!

8. My little brother text me yesterday to let me know thJustin’s housemate had just found the advent calendar that I sent him last year under the doormat in his house – so postmen of Southend, please accept this as my apology for moaning about you for supposedly stealing my little brother’s package all this time!

9. I am verybehind on reading your blogs and commenting and tweeting and sending some love lately, so I’m sorry for this too! Hopefully things will calm down soon, and we’ll be back in business!

10. I have bought the hair dye, and booked the hair appointment – I am well on the way to looking ‘normal’ again! Ooh, I also bought a new dress for my summer ball the other day – remind me to share that with you all sometime soon.

Happy Tuesday!

Bucket List – Travel!

9 May

A few years ago I spent a month of my summer holiday travelling around major cities of Europe. I know it wasn’t long compared to some people’s adventures, but it was long enough to instill the travelling bug deep in my soul!

When I’m feeling a bit rubbish I like to daydream about where I would travel if I won the lottery (oh hi guilty pleasure!)

#1. Australia and New Zealand

I know they are one of those standard gap year places where everyone goes, but I’d like to be about to join in with those conversations that my friends have that start with ‘hey remember that night in NZ when we…’

#2. America

I’m not really sure where, but there is so much media, and I read so many blogs about American life that I just want to experience it. For some reason, us Brits all want to come to the States and go to a party where they drink from those red plastic cups like on American Pie! Do you guys even have them?! On second thoughts, don’t tell me – I don’t want my trashy movie illusions shattered!

#3. Cape Town

I have visited Cape Town before when I was about 12 – I don’t remember it too well but I do remember thinking it was amazing! I loved the contrast between the shanty towns (although seeing them was really sad) on the outside of the city against the wealthy hustle and bustle of the waterfront area. Everybody just seemed so happy and relaxed, as if they lived on holiday!

#4. Berlin

Again, Berlin is a place that I have already visited. It was one of my favourite cities because it totally wasn’t how I expected it to be. Looking back, I’m not really sure what I expected, except for it all to be dark and dingy and broken after studyng the war too much! I’d really like to go in December though so that I can visit all the Christmas Markets.

#5. France

I have been to France a number of times – My Mum used to work at Brittany Ferries so that’s where we holidayed as kids. I studied French at school, and have been using it a little since working in an international school, but I would really like to opportunity to explore Southern France a little more and spend some time in Paris, soaking up the atmosphere and consolidating my language skills.

Memorial Hockey.

28 Apr

A few months ago, one of my friends was tragically knocked over by a taxi on a night out and killed.

He was a keen hockey player, and last weekenend, my local sports centre opened a new pitch in his memory and we had a big tournament ioncluding teams from his primary school, secondary school, university, workplace and hockey club.

It was a lovely way to remember him, and I was honoured to don the green and gold of my primary school again!

I hope you enjoyed it Rob xxx

Postsecret <3

13 Apr

I thought everyone in the world knew what postsecret was…until last night. I was having problems buffering this Postsecret TED talk…

And it all came out that my mum, and brother and his girlfriend had never heard of this phenomenon!

For those of you that already love Postsecret, check out Frank’s latest video for more amazingness. For those of you that don’t, check out Frank’s video to fall in love with this project.

Ten For Tuesday….On A Wednesday!

28 Mar

1. We played a staff netball match yesterday to raise money for SportRelief. Despite my dislike for the sport, it was good fun. We had some fancy dress, and the students were giggling away on the sideline! And it was all for charity – so making complete fools of ourselves was totally worth it!

2. I am LOVING this weather! I have tan lines…TAN LINES in March! It is so nice just to be able to lounge around in shorts!

3. I haven’t been to the gym or done any real exercise in weeks now, and I am starting to feel fat! This needs to be rectified asap.

4. Today is the last day of the Spring term. It’s been a good, but very tiring, one. I am tres excited for the holidays!

5. I am completely addicted to this Northern Irish show on BBQ called ’6 Degrees’. It’s about a group of uni students living in halls together and starting their first year. I guess it just reminds me of how much fun it was, and how exciting it was to be meeting all those new people.

6. I started writing 10 points out today as a 10 for Tuesday post, but I was struggling to come up with them all. Then I realised it was Wednesday, so I’m going to stop at 6!!

Awkward

10 Feb

A taxi driver hugged me when he was picking some students up this morning.

That wasn’t awkward at all….

Thoughts For Friday

3 Feb

Hello there my sweets,

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA this week – life has been as hectic as ever…I will fill you in at the weekend!

For now, I’m going old school with a few Thoughts for Friday….

CS Lewis – You’re never too old to set another goal or to dream another dream.

Psalms 27.14 – Be strong and let your heart take courage.

Know that you are loved. Dream big. Say I love you. Giggle and li=augh. Family first. Speak kindly to others. Always tell the truth. Be grateful. Try new things. Choose the right hugs and kisses. Most importantly, be happy.

I need to have a little more faith in myself sometimes. Have a great day, don’t forget to be amazing!

On Self Confidence.

16 Jan

I like to think that self confidence is something that you just grow in to. At 22 (nearly 23 – eek!) I am pretty much at the stage where I am happy enough to wear what I like and speak up in front of my friends and family. Work related issues are a little more difficult but I guess that’s natural. I’ve always thought that the best way to give the impression that one has confidence in themselves is to laigh, appear happy, and stand up for what they believe in.

As you can imagine, working in a school, and living in a boarding house with teenagers, I come across a lot of self confidence issues. it’s not something that people will openly admit too – sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes it’s not.

There is one boy who has a very high level of spoken English, very chatty, funny and popular with a solid group of friends. As far as staff and student relationships go, we get on pretty well and he opens up quite a lot. He is copletely in love with one of the prettiest girls in school, and they are close friends. However, he says that she is 10 times better looking than he is, and way out of his league. He gives off this air of being very confident, perhaps a little arrogant, but really it is all just a front and he struggles to do something as simple as speaking up to answer a question in class.

This all got me thinking, and my question to you is – Are you a confident person? When did you develop a sense of self confidence? Is it something you just grow in to or can it be in instilled in somebody?

Have a fabulous day!
