Get To Know Me Liebster

16 Jan

Last week, the lovely Manda nominated me for a Liebster award. I have completed these posts a few times before, but thought that I’d answer Manda’s questions anyway as a fun way to get to know eachother a little better 🙂

  1. Do you prefer Starbucks or Dunkin Dounts? I’m not sure I’ve ever visited a Dunkin Donuts! But I do love Starbucks 🙂
  2. Do you read on a Kindle, Nook, iPad or prefer books? I have an iPad which I use the Kindle app on, but I also still read real books. I think they are better for different situations – I like to be able to lend books to friends and mark pages in them, but I could never have carried 6 books around with me when I was travelling in the Summer – the iPad is very convenient!
  3. What’s you favorite kitchen appliance? Umm I don’t really have one. Working in a baording school, I get all my meals cooked for me so don’t really use kitchen appliances – there’s no way I could live without a kettle though!
  4. Favorite adult beverage? I love Gin & Tonic, but I would take a Diet Coke over that anyday.
  5. What’s your fitness routine? Do you like it? I don’t really have a routine, I am struggling to get back in to the groove after Christmas. It’s a medium combination of running and badminton and school games lessons though!
  6. Why do you blog? I started blogging to keep track of my weight loss journey, then it changed in to a record of my life and a way to meet some great people. Now I can’t really think about a life without blogging.
  7.  What’s your favorite blog to read? Why? I have lots! Press Play, Ben Does Life & Healthy Tipping Point are high up on the list!
  8. What’s your favorite fashion accessory right now? I generally don’t wear many accesories – I’m rubbish at remembering to put them on!
  9.  What’s your favorite room in your house, why? My bedroom. Ever since we moved house last year I havea huge room! Because I live away at work most of the time, I love coming home to my own bed and my own personal space.
  10.  What’s your favorite food? Curry, Cupcakes, Fajitas!
  11. What do you hope to Make Happen in 2013? I want to qualify as an English teacher, get back in to a good exercise/healthy eating routine and find a new job that I will be happy in in September. It’s going to be big!

Your turn – answer a question! 🙂

Liebster Award

19 Nov

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Liebster Award by the lovely Delightfully Awkward Brit!

The award is designed to advertise and show support to your favourite small blogs (those with 200 followers or less).

(Source)

I am going to cheat a little, because I have written a post similar to this before (check it out here and here) but am going to answer Brit’s questions anyway as it’s a fun way for us all to get to know eachother a little better!

  1. What are you listening to right now? I have Ben Howard on repeat – I love him even more than before after his concert last week!
  2. Cats or dogs- and why? Dogs, because why have a cat when you could have a dog?!
  3. Favorite season? Oooh tough one. I love the Summer, and I love the Spring because it means Summer is coming. Autumn is also pretty spectacula wth the changing trees etc – they’re all good!
  4. If you could get paid to do anything- I mean, anything– for the rest of your life, what would you choose? Oooh I don’t know! I’d love to travel, I’d love to work with young people, I’d love to feel like I was making a difference – can you combine all of those things in to a dream job for me?!
  5. Why did you choose the blog name you did? I kind of made it up on a whim one day – It represents food, fitness and fun, which at the time were what I wanted to base my blog on – but I have taken a change of direction and have recently been considering a name change to match the content.
  6. What is the best vacation you have ever been on? Do my 2 Eurotrip travelling stints count? If not, when I was about 13 I went to South Africa with ym Mum and bro over Christmas – it was incredible, and the first time I got a taste of real travel.
  7. Is there anything special you are hoping to get for this upcoming Christmas? Not really, I am just looking forwasrd to spending the time catching up with friends and family – time to do that seems to have become a real privilege lately.
  8. If you could only buy clothes from one store for the rest of your life, which store would it be? Ummmm Fat Face? White Stuff? Gap? H&M? Dorothy Perkins? Eeeek, it’s too hard to choose!
  9. What’s one item on your bucket list? Visit Canada.
  10. What’s your favorite color? I like the brown and turquoise combo!
  11. If you were a super hero, what special power would you want? Definitely to be able to fly!

Now it’s your turn, choose a question and answer in the comments 🙂

Summer Blog Swap: Chris @ Ink Spot Stories.

18 Jul

Hello lovelies 🙂
I hope you’re all okay – I know I’ve been a bit awol lately, and still really want to tell you about my weekend, but today is a little different as I’m taking part in the 20sb Summer blog swap!

So meet Chris, from Ink Spot Stories.

Timing isn’t my speciality, but this summer night I was living the dream and asked a hot girl out…at the worst moment possible. It was great timing for me but unfortunately not so great for her.

This happened to me while I was in high school – the awkward years when I hadn’t found myself but I had sparks of a confident and happy self.

It was a Friday night and one of the new friends I was hanging out with at my new high school invited me out to party with him and a couple of his friends. Dave talked the girls up and talked about how they were down for a good night out. I was just out to try and forget the problems within myself so I went along. The girls came and I knew that Dave wasn’t lying. The two other girls didn’t matter but Mandy was the one I wanted. Me and Mandy just started to click right away. She was smoking and drinking while I was just continued to drink my RC Cola. In case you’re curious, it’s a pool hall that we went to. They let kids in until 11pm then they ID anyone in the place.
Anyway, the group of us walked from the mall up the road towards the pool hall/bar. I was chatting up Mandy the whole walk. Hell, I tried to sneak a kiss but she blew smoke in my face! I nearly gagged but I shook it off and took my first step into this bar. There was Dim lighting and a bunch of pool tables. The smoke was everywhere. At times wanted to leave but this woman was something different and my heart pushed me on. A couple (as in six!) games of pool later, we got kicked out of the place. We all returned to the mall to kick it before I had to commute home. The booze flowed and drugs were smoked by everyone except for me that night. Finally, I decided after my nerves getting the best of me to risk it all and ask Mandy out on another more private date. She stumbled back a bit before grabbing my arm and walking away from the rest of the group. We walked around the corner and just stared at each other. The cold night air was pretty warm for a July night. I nearly jumped as she held my hand. There was a short but brief conversation about how we saw each other. I couldn’t wait much longer because the last bus was coming and I felt like there was enough of a chance she’d say yes that I asked her for a actual date. She giggled then answered with, “You’ve got the worst timing. I would so say yes but can you ask me again when I’m not so drunk.” And to add insult to the moment, she turned and threw up. I walked over, held her hair back then the tyre of the bus screeched. I couldn’t risk having to walk home from Kanata so I stuffed a piece of paper with my number on it into her pocked and ended my night barely making the bus.
Poor Chris! I’d love to hear how it all worked out in the end…..pop over and say hello at his blog!

I’ll be back tomorrow with Thursday’s Book Chat 🙂

Happy Blog Birthday To Me!

27 Apr

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for a whole year today! I never thought it would last this long – I’ve tried blogging and journalling a number of times before but never been able to stick to it for longer than a few months. I guess I just needed a story to tell.

So thank you for reading my story! Thank you for your supportive comments. Thanks for making me smile. Thanks for inspiring me with your own blog posts. Thanks for a wonderful year – here’s to another!

Blogger Fun! Part 2.

15 Feb

So, continuing on from yesterday’s post….

Favourite vacation of all time? As mentioned yesterday, when I was younger I went to South Africa and it was amazing! We visited Cape Town, and I remember being completely amazed and inspired at how laid-back and friendly everyone was. I’d definitely be very happy going back there one day! I don’t know if this counts, but I also spent a month travelling between my 2nd and 3rd years at uni which was obviously pretty amazing!

Favourite running workout? As a general rule, I just run…without a plan. I always feel quite satisfied after running rolling intervals though 🙂

Do you track your daily dietary intake? I used to when I was following the Slimming World plan more strictly. I probably still should, at least a little more accurately than I am…

What were you doing around this time 10 years ago? Well, I was 12 years old. Just about finding my way at secondary school – playing a lot of hockey, working hard, and spending all the time I could with my friends (and probably chatting to them on the phone when we couldn’t actually be together!)

What’s your favourite cheat meal? I love chicken fajitas! Spice and cheese and tortillas jam-packed with chicken. Nom nom nom. (Not really overly bad for me, I know, but I don’t really do ‘cheat meals’ as it were, so that’s just one of my favourite meals!)

What’s your favourite memory of 2011? Oooh, I don’t know! Getting my new job and working at the summer school was a big highlight. Also, reaching my target weight, spending New Year with my uni friends at a little ‘reunion’ and the first party we had at our new house.

Have you ever been hospitalized and how were your nurses? Only once, when I was about 13. To be honest, I can’t even remember the nurses :/ (sorry NHS!) All I remember is having a really hot doctor, and being embarassed that I hadn’t shaved my armpits – as if he would have been interested! hahahaha 🙂

Do you prefer to train alone of in a group? I prefer to do my actual workout alone, but I quite like having ‘gym dates’ to make sure I get there!

What’s your resting heart rate? I have no idea!

What accomplishment makes you most proud? Most recently, running a 37minute 5K! (I’m still reeling off that one..!) Also, losing my weight, getting a degree and my job, and making my Mum proud of me 🙂

Tag 11 people and ask them 11 questions? I am only sure of one person other than John that regularly reads the blog, so Melissa, you’re up! (Big shout out by the way chick!)

Blogger Fun! Part 1.

14 Feb

So a little while ago now (oops!) John tagged me in the fun post and asked me to play along in a little ‘get to know you’ type game!

Here are the rules:

1. Post these rules
2. You must post 11 random things about yourself
3. Answer the questions set for you in their post
4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer
5. Go to their blog and tell them you’ve tagged them

Okay, 11 random things about myself, here we go….

1. When I was a kid I used to have a pet barn owl called Willow. We used to let her out to fly at night and one day she just didn’t come back in the morning 😦 😦 Other than that I’ve had gerbils, stick insects, a springer spaniel, and now Maisie and my fishcakes (that’s my goldfish to normal people!)

2. The kids at school really make me laugh sometimes at their misunderstanding of the English language. For example – getting mixed up between sarcasm and circumcision, or between forehead and foreskin?!

3. I love to read. I really want to vary my tastes a little more and complete the World Book Night 2012, but it’s happening very slowly because I am always so busy at school, and get so tired that reading before I go to bed is normally the last thing on my mind!

4. When I was little, my Mum used to work for a large ferry company, and as a result we always went to France and Spain on holiday. I never flew a substantial distance until I went to South Africa when I was about 14. I wasn’t scared then, but have since developed a fear of taking off and landing in Planes.

5. My standard Sunday morning routine is to get up and read Postsecret with a cup of tea. I have always wanted to send in a secret but have yet to decide on one/actually get round to it.

6.  Following on from number 3, I really want to write a book. I’ve been thinking about it quite a lot lately – I’d like to record my experiences of living in a boarding house full of international students because not only do we have a lot of fun, but some of things they come out with are absolutely hilarious! I just haven’t quite come up with the right ‘stance’ or worke dout how to go about it yet!

7. One of my favourite things to do at the weekends is walk down to Lounge Seco with my Mum and Maisie and have some brunch. Egg and bacon stack nom nom nom!

8. If I were to go on Mastermind, my specialist subject would be Harry Potter. Despite never blogging about it, I love those books! I normally can’t get to grips with books/films about things that aren’t ‘real’, but let’s be honest, how cool would it be to be a wizard?!

9. I love tea and hot chocolate, but I can’t stand coffee. I detest everything about it – the smell, the taste – I can’t even eat coffee flavoured chocolates!! :O I’ve tried, really I have! Mochas, lattes, your standard builders coffee?!! I just can’t do it!

10. When I was little, I always used to go round to my Grandparents for tea on Fridays. After dinner, I would sneak in the the living room and play cards with my Grandad – he taught me to play rummy. He obviously used to let me cheat, but I used to think I was so clever ‘pulling the wool over his eyes’ and winning every week!

11. It has taken me literally days to write this post because I couldn’t think of 11 even slightly interesting things about myself! Does that make me a loser?! Probably. Does this count as a fact? Probably not, but hey, it’s my blog…!

Part 2 (the question & answer sesh) coming tomorrow!

Packing 18 Years In To Boxes.

25 Aug

I was lying in bed last night thinking about how threetimesf needed a house moving update!

You may remember that a while back we found a house, and then we lost a house. Our house (My Mum’s house) was sold, and so we needed to find somewhere else.

Fast forward 6 weeks, and we have found somewhere new. It’s lovely, but life is moving quite quickly and we are hoping to exchange contracts at the end of the month.

All of this only leads down to one thing….packing. I hate packing. The thought of packing the last 18 years of my life in to boxes stresses me out! 😦

It’s sort of fun though – I am taking a huge trip down memory lane!

Old diaries are my favourite discovery so far! Accounts of my first kiss, and my Mum’s approving comments about a boy doing the washing up when he stayed over one night are highlights so far! (I was a cool kid – everything was documented in at least 1 diary!)

I have a few posts scheduled over the coming weeks sharing some of this juicy information (!!) but for now….

Packing, packing and you guessed it, more packing!

(NB: My packing is nowhere near this tidy…source)

Did you keep teenage diaries? How embarassing are they to look back on?!

Sophie.

ps – I just added the ‘bloglovin’ button on the right – follow away my lovelies 🙂
